چکیده

A drift compression and f i n d focus lattice for heavy ion beams should focus the entire bepulse onto the same r o d spot on the tnrget. We show thnt this requircmont implies thnt the drift cornprmion design necds to satisfy a self-similar symmetry condition. Far un-neutmdizcd hems, the Lie symmetry group annlysis i6 applied to the wnrm-fluid model to sy;tematicdly derive thc self-similar drift compression solutions. For neutrnlized be-, the 1D Vlosov equation iti salved explicitly and families of self-similnr rlrift compression solutions are constructed. To compensate for the deviation from the selfsimilar symmetry condition due to the transverse emittance, four timedependent magnets nre introduced in the upstrewn of the drift compression such that the entire b e m pulse can be facwed onto the t h e 5 m e focd spot.

PSFC/JA-03-02 Superconducting options for final optics magnets for the Heavy Ion Driver in Inertial Fusion Energy

The environment close to the chamber in inertial fusion confinement imposes severe constrains on magnets used for final focusing magnets needed for the heavy ion driver. Space is at a premium, requiring close proximity of adjacent magnets, making magnet integration imperative. In addition, the high radiation flux and heating rate imposes requirements that are as stringent as in magnetic fusion....

Lbnl-54472 Scientific Issues in Future Induction Linac Accelerators for Heavy Ion Fusion

The worldwide heavy ion fusion effort has made a large amount of progress over almost three decades of research on the intense beam physics and concepts needed for an inertial fusion driver. In the 1970’s, ‘80’s, and ‘90’s in the U.S., most experiments used driver parameters scaled to low energy and low line charge density in order to study, most often with a single beam, the physics of high-pe...

Energy Gain of Magnetized Cylindrical D-T Targets in Fast Ignition Fusion

In recent years, many different plans have been considered to use the nuclear energy gained from inertial confinement fusion (ICF) as attempts to obtain high energy efficiencies. In conventional ICF methods, a small amount (about mg) of the deuterium–tritium compound is confined in a small spherical chamber of a few millimeters in radius and compressed by laser or heavy ion beams with powers in...

بهره انرژی ساچمه هایی بااشتعال جرقه ای در همجوشی به روش لختی

In order to determine the fusion energy gain in a target due to inertial confinement fusion, it is necessary to solve hydrodynamic equations governed on plasma behavior during confinement time. To compress spherical multilayer targets having fuel in the central part, they are irradiated by laser or heavy ion beams. A suitable mass ratio of a pusher is used to ignite the central part of the ta...

Survey of Collective Instabilities and Beam-Plasma Interactions in Intense Heavy Ion Beams

This paper presents a survey of the present theoretical understanding based on advanced analytical and numerical studies of collective processes and beam-plasma interactions in intense heavy ion beams for applications to ion-beam-driven high energy density physics and heavy ion fusion. The topics include: discussion of the conditions for quiescent beam propagation over long distances; and the e...
